EASL Congress 2026: Barcelona at the heart of hepatology

From May 26–29, Barcelona hosted the EASL Congress 2026, one of the leading international events in hepatology, bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, and key stakeholders in liver health.
Over four days, the congress showcased the latest scientific advances, clinical challenges, and emerging research in liver diseases, reinforcing its role as a key platform for knowledge exchange and international collaboration.

ELPA: strengthening the patient voice through the AGM

At the same time, the European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA) held a parallel programme of activities, highlighting the essential role of patients within the hepatology landscape.
A key highlight was the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which provided an important space to:

  • Strengthen collaboration among European patient organisations
  • Share priorities, challenges, and strategic directions
  • Reinforce joint efforts to improve outcomes for people living with liver diseases

In addition, ELPA organised further initiatives focused on patient engagement and capacity building, including educational sessions and dedicated meetings within the framework of the congress.
The alignment of EASL and ELPA activities once again underscores the importance of a more participatory healthcare model, where the patient voice plays a central role.
